InfoNub FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Why did I never receive a response after pressing "Submit Request"?

Your text message was likely sent to Google, but for some reason their services may not be responding. To confirm this, simply use your Treo's Messaging application to send a text message containing "weather 94039" to phone number "46645" (Google). You should receive a text message containing the weather conditions for Mountain View, CA within a few seconds. If this doesn't work for you, something is wrong outside of InfoNub's control, so you may have to try again later.

What wireless charges do I need to be concerned with?

InfoNub communicates with information providers such as Google solely through text messaging. If you are not certain of your Treo's service plan with respect to text messaging, please contact your wireless provider. Each time you press "Submit Request" one text message is sent to Google. They in turn will send one or more text messages back to you containing the requested information.

Depending on your provider and service plan, you may have unlimited text messages, you may have a certain allowance of messages per month, or you may be charged for each incoming and/or outgoing message.

InfoNub is in many cases an economical way to retrieve information from the Internet -- for example someone's service plan may allow them to retrieve weather information for free or 5 cents, versus signing up for a $44.95/month unlimited data plan. However, your mileage may vary and it is your responsibility to become aware of your text messaging situation. Please contact your wireless provider (e.g., Sprint, Alltel, Verizon, Cingular) to confirm your situation.

How do I use InfoNub?

InfoNub makes a wide variety of services from Google available to you. Simply select the provider's name from the popup menu near the upper-right of the screen (Google currently), then select a service from the popup menu located near the middle of the screen. Enter the necessary information, and press the "Submit Request" button. Then wait a few seconds to receive your desired results.

Which services are harnessed by InfoNub?

Google services include area code look-up, business listings, calculator, currency conversion, definitions, driving directions, movie showtimes, product prices, Q & A, residential listings, search results, sports scores, stock quotes, language translation, weather, and zip code look-up.

More information providers and services may be supported in future versions of InfoNub.

How do I view the incoming text messages?

When a text message comes in, your Treo will display a dialog box asking if you'd like to view it. If you decline this, you can get to the message later by tapping the small envelope icon located in the upper-right of InfoNub, or by manually launching your Treo's built-in Messaging application.

What information is saved between sessions?

Zip code fields are saved betwen sessions. For example if you enter a zip code of '94039' into the weather form, that same zip code will appear next time you launch InfoNub. No other information is saved between sessions, because in most cases you will need to enter different pieces of information into those other fields (UPC codes, movie titles, etc.).
